Our Mission

The Coalition’s mission is to implement the Saint Vrain Creek Master Plan by pursuing recovery from flood impacts, resiliency to natural hazards, and protection of the natural character and multiple uses of the Saint Vrain Creek.

We achieve our mission through broad stakeholder engagement and collaboration. Our members are driven by the vision of a resilient, ecologically-healthy watershed, that supports a sustainable working river system.

Since the initiation of the Coalition, we have focused on flood recovery and future resiliency, in particular implementation of Master Plan priority projects. The Coalition works through its members and partners to achieve consensus, resolve conflict, prioritize projects, identify opportunities for efficiencies, identify unmet flood recovery needs, seek funding, and educate our community.

Flood Recovery and Resiliency
The Coalition successfully manages flood recovery stream restoration projects, and also coordinates with the numerous other recovery projects in the watershed. In 2017, we are managing four major flood resiliency projects representing more than $4.5M in design and construction. We incorporate community volunteerism into our projects. Residents and friends of the coalition participate in revegetation, clean ups, and monitoring. Since 2014, we have collaborated with our municipal and agency members and partners on numerous of projects in the watershed to help ensure successful implementation.

Stakeholder Engagement
The Coalition brings expertise and education to vital community dialog, and provides increased awareness of the need for balance in the multifaceted uses of the Saint Vrain Watershed. Our direct outreach programs provide awareness and education; these include community input meetings, project site visits, river cleanup days, an annual bus tour and canoe trips. We have collaborated with other Front Range coalitions to publish a Regional Stream Stewardship and Recovery handbook, and a Resilient Crossings handbook. We maintain ongoing contact with our members, partners, and donors with a monthly newsletter and our website.

The Coalition members and staff facilitate a forum for advocacy, cooperation, and collaboration. We advocate for the diverse issues in the numerous reaches of the Saint Vrain. We seek meaningful input from diverse sources, and work as an educated, impartial, coalition with broad stakeholder backing. We work to find common ground to identify solutions by hosting and facilitating public meetings focused towards mutual agreement and consensus. We seek to achieve measurable outcomes and actions for a healthy watershed.
